Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
An important official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
